As cavernas eram pouco sofisticadas



Seguindo uma referência do aesquinadorio li um artigo sobre “What prehistoric art and artifacts can tell us about the emergence of modern human behavior”.

Este artigo, recorrendo bastante às ideias dum livro recente "Prehistoric Art: The Symbolic Journey of Humankind" de Randall White of New York University” afirma acertadamente que "We are still learning how to recognize symbolism in the archaeological record."

Mais à frente diz que “As much as they may touch us, wall paintings and figurines are not definitive proof of the presence of a modern human sensibility”.

Afastando-se de lirismos primitivistas, ainda remata logo a seguir que apenas devemos ir tentando “signpost our ancestors' progress along the path toward behavioral and cognitive sophistication.

Retenho aqui com bastante agrado a recusa da valorização excessiva e frenética do “cavernátivo” e a utilização da palavra sofhistication com um a propósito desconcertante. Uma palavra a explorar no nosso armário de rupestres preconceitos.
